Isaac Fletcher, a former Middlesbrough player, has joined Shrewsbury Town after developing his skills at the Championship club.
What happened?
Fletcher, who became Salop's second summer signing, joined Middlesbrough at under-10 level and progressed through the academy before leaving in 2023.
He looked back on his time at the Championship club and the impact it had on his development. “My development at Middlesbrough was massive,” he said.
Why it matters for Middlesbrough
The club's development program has been instrumental in shaping Fletcher's career, with the 24-year-old acknowledging the facilities and culture at Middlesbrough as key factors in his growth. The attacking midfielder joins Shrewsbury after an impressive spell with Spennymoor Town in non-league, and having scored seven goals for Barrow.

What comes next?
Preparations for the new season will soon ramp up, with Shrewsbury’s players due to report for pre-season training on July 1. Fletcher also offered a glimpse into life away from football, adding: “I'd say I'm quite a relaxed guy. I like a bit of golf, like my padel tennis and all that. I like to think I'm alright, not at golf - I need to do a bit of practising. As Middlesbrough looks to the future, their current league standing and recent form will be crucial in determining their success, with the team currently sitting at 5th in the league, having lost their last result against Hull City.
