Middlesbrough have received no contact from Trabzonspor over Morgan Whittaker, despite reports of the Turkish club's interest in the forward. Whittaker finished last season as Boro's top scorer, contributing 21 goals and assists in the Championship. His market value has now increased significantly, with Trabzonspor's highest ever transfer fee being around £7.5m. Whittaker remains a key part of Boro's plans moving forward, with three years left to run on his contract at the Riverside. In an emotional Instagram post after Boro's play-off final defeat to Hull City, Whittaker wrote: 'I don't have the words to describe how I felt after the game Saturday, but I do have the words to describe playing for this football club. The players, manager, coaches, staff and the fans have made me fall back in love with football and that's all I've ever wanted to do is play football with a smile and this club gives me that.' Whittaker has only been a Boro player for 18 months, but has had a rollercoaster time at the club already. After signing in January last year, the forward had a slow start to life at the Riverside as Michael Carrick's side struggled for form and came up short in their bid to reach the play-offs. Early this season, former boss Rob Edwards called out Boro supporters who ironically cheered when Whittaker was substituted in the second half of the draw at Preston. And the former Plymouth attacker then responded by scoring eight goals in 12 games between mid-October and mid-December. He went on to score six more goals and provided seven assists in total and quickly established himself as a key figure under Kim Hellberg, though he still struggled for consistency at times and his displays in the play-offs were disappointing. But Whittaker was sorely missed during a spell out of the side through injury in March and April. After his return, Hellberg said: 'Sometimes, you don’t appreciate just how good something is when you have it. Then, when you miss it, you realise just how important it is. That’s the same way in life sometimes. When you see Morgan in training now, being back, you see the quality he has with finishing, how quickly he can shoot with both his left and right foot. That is a quality we have missed, and I think everyone can see that.'
