Middlesbrough have signed former Leeds United defender Sam Byram on a free transfer. The 32-year-old was released by Leeds earlier this summer after his second spell with the club. Byram can play at either left or right-back and made 80 appearances for Leeds over the past three seasons, with only five of those coming in 2025-26. He was part of the squad that won the Championship title in May 2025.
"I’ve been around this league for a number of years and had a couple of promotions in that time, so I know what it takes," Byram told the club’s website. "It’s an incredibly tough league and a long season, but it’s a great squad and great group."
The signing is the ninth player Middlesbrough have brought in during the current transfer window.
